Education Committee - Grow: Created to Become like Christ

TASK: Plan, promote, and oversee all educational events, lead members to deeper spiritual commitment and help them grow to spiritual maturity. Oversee selection of education materials in cooperation with the pastor and staff.

Sunday School Teacher:

 Sunday School teachers and other instructors shall be responsible for teaching biblically-based lessons appropriate to the age and grade level of their students, to secure a substitute teacher for a planned absence no later than one week prior to the planned absence, and to report the weekly class attendance/offering record to the Sunday School Secretary, as well as coordinate the ordering of any literature or materials with the Sunday School Secretary.

 

Sunday School Superintendent:

 The Sunday School Superintendent shall be responsible for promoting and encouraging the success of the Sunday School classes and activities, including, but not limited to: teacher training, curriculum evaluation, and working with teachers to increase enrollment in Sunday School.

 

Sunday School Secretary:

 The Sunday School Secretary shall be responsible for maintaining the Church-wide weekly record of attendance and offerings given in Sunday School classes, and reporting the same at each monthly Business Meeting, as well as coordinating the ordering of any literature or materials for Sunday School classes.

  

Nursery Coordinator (Paid personnel):

The Nursery Coordinator shall be responsible for providing teacher coverage in the Nursery for children from birth to 4 years of age during Sunday School and Morning Worship.

Stewardship and Finance Committee

TASK: To oversee all financial affairs of the congregation to make sure they are being conducted efficiently. This includes preparing budgets, paying the financial obligations of the congregation, and providing for the annual audits of the accounts of the treasurer and financial secretary, the school, and organizations within the congregation.

Property Committee – Caretakers: Stewards of God’s gifts – To care for and maintain all the personal property of the Congregation including grounds, building and other assets.

Chairperson:

Responsibilities:

1. Be responsible for any matters related to the real and personal property of the local church.

                2. Make certain that the Articles of Incorporation of the local                 church are up to date.

3. Purchase any supplies related to the upkeep and maintenance of the building or property.

4. Ensure Snow removal and Lawn service

5. Supervise the care of all property and equipment

6. Supervise the sale or purchase of property

7. Be responsible for the use of church buildings in consultation with the pastor and staff.

8. Be responsible for adequate insurance coverage on all church property in cooperation with the finance committee and maintaining inventory of assets

9. To submit to the Committee on Finance annual budget requests for property maintenance and improvement

10. Supervise all custodial and maintenance services

11. Make recommendations for capital improvements as needed

12. Maintain comprehensive listing of those with access and use of the building

Head Grounds person:

 The Head Grounds person shall be responsible for the long-term planning of upkeep and maintenance needs, as well as to direct the efforts of the grounds people, monthly church cleaners, and other volunteers to regularly maintain, repair, and clean the Church grounds, buildings, and other properties and assets.

 

Grounds people:

 Under the direction of the Head Grounds person, the Grounds people shall provide or secure the labor and supplies needed to maintain, repair, and clean the Church grounds, buildings, and other properties and assets. For jobs beyond the time and capacity of the Grounds people, they may entertain and evaluate bids from outside contractors.

 

Church Custodian (paid personnel):

 The Church Custodian shall be responsible for cleaning the church on a weekly basis by vacuuming, cleaning the restrooms, removing trash and other similar tasks as directed by the Pastor and the Head Grounds person.

Worship Committee - Worship: Planned for God's Pleasure

TASK: Plan, promote, and oversee all services of worship, encourage personal, family and corporate prayer and devotion, and provide music and worship resources for church activities.

6. Regularly review worship assistant needs, including or changes to worship assistant job descriptions, and view of available volunteers.

Choir Director (paid personnel): 

The Choir Director shall conduct the Choir practices and performances, manage Choir personnel issues, and select music and songs in cooperation with the Pastor. The Choir Director shall also oversee the maintenance and repair of Church instruments.

 

Musicians (paid personnel):

In cooperation with the Pastor and Choir Director, the Church Musicians shall assist in the selection and performance of music and songs used during Church services, as well as to promptly report maintenance and repair needs of Church instruments used by them to the Choir Director.

Ushers:  

The Ushers shall be responsible for greeting and providing bulletins to worshippers, and directing the attention of visitors to the visitor greeting cards in the pews as well as to collect offerings, assist worshippers during inclement weather and those with special access needs, maintain order during service, and supervise parking as needed.

Newsletter Editor:

In cooperation with the pastor(s) and staff design, gather, and edit material from all Rejoice ministries for the monthly newsletter to be distributed electronically, snail mail and for distribution.

Webmaster:

 The Church Webmaster, in cooperation with the Pastor, shall be responsible for maintaining the accounts and services necessary to continue the official church website located at http://www.rejoicelc.org, and regularly update the website’s content with material that is timely, informative, and presented in a manner and format that is professional and a credit to the Church’s reputation and mission. The webmaster shall also assist and advise the Pastor with the maintenance and purchase of Church-owned computer hardware, software and other technological products or issues.

Librarian:

 The Church Librarian, in cooperation with the Pastor, shall be responsible for organizing and maintaining library resources, and keeping accurate records of borrowed and returned resources.

 

Historian:

 The Church Historian, in cooperation with the Pastor, shall be responsible for providing for the preservation and storage of Church archives, records, and documents.

A/V coordinator:

Train and schedule individuals to operate sound and video equipment for all functions at Rejoice.

Fellowship Committee - Connect: Formed for God's Family

TASK: Help all members connect with the congregation by planning, promoting, and overseeing all fellowship groups and events. The Fellowship Coordinator shall be responsible for maintaining the Church kitchen’s cleanliness, and the upkeep of cleaning and paper ware supplies and food stocks, as well as to organize and oversee Church-wide fellowships and other functions involving the use of the kitchen.

Staff-Parish Relations Committee

Task: The main function of Staff Support is to affirm and strengthen the mission of the congregation and the ministry of the staff. This is done through careful listening and clarifying of expectations, sharing communication, identifying ideas of misunderstanding conducting annual reviews and affirmations of the staff, and coordinating the filling of staff positions.

The Staff-Parish Relations Committee is the administrative unit in a local church where staff and congregational interests are integrated to focus on the mission of the church.

The S/PRC works with individuals and groups, including:

· the lead pastor

· all ordained leaders-both elders and deacons-called or appointed by the bishop

· the lay staff

· the congregation (individually and corporately)

· the community inside and outside the walls of your building

Primary Tasks of the Committee

Specific tasks for the S/PRC include:

· explaining the nature and function of ministry to the staff and the congregation

· conferring with the congregation and the staff/pastor about ministry direction

· assessing the ministry of the congregation and the staff/pastor at least annually

· conferring and consulting with the Bishop and Synod Staff

· supporting lifelong learning for all staff (continuing education)

· identifying and supporting individuals from the congregation whom God seems to be calling for ordained ministry

· making recommendations regarding compensation, travel, benefits and housing to the church council

· recommending needed staff positions and develop written job descriptions and titles for associate pastors and staff

Organization and Relationships

The committee has between 5 and 9 members who are representative of the congregation. Members should include a young adult and may also include a youth. The Membership is selected by the lead pastor and President of the council and approved by the Church Council.
The committee must not include an immediate family member of the pastor or staff or more than one person from the same household.

The committee membership should be divided into three groups or classes that rotate. Members are elected to three-year terms. At the end of the three year term, a committee member cannot immediately serve again.
