Volunteering and Ministries

While Rejoice Lutheran provides the physical location for the Food Pantry, HCSA has responsibility for the overall operation of the Food Pantry. This is done through volunteers from member organizations and churches that make up Hudson Community Service Association. These volunteers provide the labor and time needed to staff the various operations necessary to obtain, shelve, promote and distribute the needed food items.
There are two distinctive functions to Pantry operations: Collections and Distribution. Collections receives food donations weekly – Every Thursday (from 4:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m.) and Every Saturday (from 9:00 a.m. till noon), except major holidays. Distribution is on the 4th Saturday of each month (except major holidays) and provides food to those individuals and families who qualify.
Volunteers who staff collections screen the donated items for stale dates, and defective cans or boxes of food, sort and shelve items by food category and provide tax deductible receipts to donors.
Volunteers who work on Distribution days must go thru Civil Rights Training and then function as part of an 8-10 person team to help process the qualified individuals and families so that they may obtain their allotment of food and other available items.
If you believe you need food assistance, please check to see if you qualify. 330-671-9457

Hattie Larlham Worship Project

We provide Worship Services for Hattie Larlham in Mantua on the second Sunday of each month and need volunteers to sit with worshipers, sing if possible, and to interact with residents. This is a very moving experience and we have been doing this for several years.

A.A. and Alanon

Rejoice host A.A. groups on Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday also has an Alanon Group that meets separately. Please call the church for more information and we will gladly connect you with the right people. The phone number for intergroup office for A.A. in Akron is 330-253-8181 and for Alanon is 330-645-1165.
